What I wonder in church, sometimes

How come there isn't a linguistic female equivalent of brethren? I'm not buying the sisters substitute. Does sistren just sound too weird? We could go with soren. Ponder that if you will.

i've often wondered the same thing. i mean, the guys sound so cool when they're like, "brethren, we need you to get your butts in gear." "sisters" is not a worthy substitute. :(
